MOBILE POS & SHOPIFY INTEGRATION FOR ONLINE AND PHYSICAL EVENTS
Client
Chequeout provides a novel way for shoppers to purchase merchandise during physical pop-up events, virtual events or when paying directly on a website checkout.
Their mobile payment app and inventory management system facilitates quick and easy payments through scan-and-go QR codes - bringing contactless shopping and pickup to in-person purchases, while also adding a new dimension of functionality to virtual events hosted on Zoom that seek to replicate intimate purchasing experiences like QVC or Tupperware Clubs.
By enabling more buying opportunities for shoppers and providing merchants with an exclusive, high networth network of shoppers, Chequeout truly unifies and simplifies and speeds up the online and in store experience for both merchants and shoppers.

Challenge
We started working with Chequeout in the ideation stage of their journey at the end of 2019. They came to us with a rough idea for an end-to-end shopping platform and wanted our help building a beta version that helped merchants and shoppers complete purchases in various environments effortlessly with minimal friction through contactless shopping and QR codes.
By combining flexible selling tools, a robust inventory management system, and helpful reporting, Chequeout wanted their platform to be the payment tech solution that removes purchase barriers and unleashes business potential. The checkout process had to be simplified down to a single QR code scan, and streamlined platforms had to be built for inventory management, order processing, shipping platforms and a mobile application.
Strategy
For this project, we pulled together three main points of contact. For daily communication with the client, our project manager oversaw the entire project from start to finish. We then had a dedicated Solution Architect and engineering team working on the technical solutions with Chequeout’s design team, and a separate business analyst that worked on clearly describing and optimizing the product’s functionality so we could build it more effectively in their short time frame.
After reviewing the scope of work with the Chequeout team, we mapped the key project goals and built a plan to include specific features on the Chequeout app and CMS.

With ease of onboarding, scalability and security as a top priority for Chequeout, we built a safe, distributed backend solution that could be easily added to as the business grew. The backend solution was built on top of our PHP, open source framework - Spiral. The Client-side interfaces were made using React.JS, and the mobile app development was made using React.Native.

Results
The original plan was to introduce Chequeout as a physical, in-person scan-and-go app with a backend inventory piece, with the virtual event capabilities coming later in the roadmap. However, the app happened to be released just before the pandemic hit in March 2020.
With brick and mortar stores suddenly closing and in person popup stores being delayed, we had to quickly pivot and transform the product into a full online solution, converting our beta product into a live product. From the first day, there was huge demand and the platform had hundreds of merchants and shoppers using Chequeout over Zoom to facilitate ordering and payments using QR codes. As the transactions were completed, the big question for us was whether everything would hold together under such immediate and unforeseen online demand on a beta version?
Thankfully, the product hit the ground running and everything went seamlessly. As we observed performance closely each day, we were able to make changes and adjustments that we anticipated - and quickly iterate on our development plan.
With the online solution now sufficiently tested and stable, Chequeout is setting their sights on attracting new vendors to the platform to host more physical popup events and online events via Zoom.
